MUSIC: The Orchard launches Australasian publishing unit
Monday, 02 April 2007

"MELBOURNE/NEW YORK, April 2 /Release. The Orchard New York’s co-founder and Managing Director Richard Gottehrer will join Gary Mackenzie and the AmpHead Music team as they launch their Australasian Orchard Music Services Publishing Department this April.

The new department will focus on offering artists incredible sync opportunities in film, television, advertising and other mediums- areas that in the past have been a closed door to many independent artists and labels with out official and exclusive publishing representation. In addition, the service will bring pain free music licensing to creative decision makers and music supervisors giving them access to one of the largest and most diverse catalogues of independent music in the world. AmpHead Music/The Orchard serves as a one-stop rights clearinghouse for several thousand independent catalogues across the globe (from territories such as Spain, Argentina, Australia, Japan, and more) including marquis labels such as Sanctuary, Lookout Records, Greensleeves, Musart (6% of US Latin market), Fierce Panda, and Delicious Vinyl.

Gary Mackenzie, the head of AmpHead Music/The Orchard Australasia, is excited to announce the launch of the new department heralding it as the beginning of new age in independent music representation. "At a time when many creative decision makers are looking for cutting-edge artists or specific styles and genres, and independent artists and labels need representation that does not destroy their independence, our non exclusive publishing service offers a win on all fronts- an incredible, diverse catalogue, direct one stop licensing and a creative team that can source, support and administer any song placement requirement" said Mackenzie.

Richard Gottehrer is Orchard Music Service's Managing Director, overseeing every aspect of track selection. In addition to co-founding The Orchard, Gottehrer is a legendary songwriter ("My Boyfriend's Back," "I Want Candy," "Sorrow," "Nightime"), a multi-platinum producer (Blondie, The Go-Go's, The Raveonettes, Joan Armatrading), and a successful music industry executive. His songs have been recorded by David Bowie, George Thorogood, Aaron Carter, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. In the 1970s, Gottehrer co-founded Sire Records (later sold to the Time Warner Corporation), which became one of the industry's leading independent record companies in the '70s and '80s. Its artist roster included Madonna, Talking Heads, The Ramones, The Pretenders and Depeche Mode."
